Was it a long night or was it just my thoughts that had made time stop? I didn’t know. My head felt like it was splitting in two. That’s all I got out of that night. Even the cheerful morning that draped the large hall in a new outfit, chasing away its usual sameness, couldn’t chase away my headache. But seeing his face there at the end of the hall, took all the hurt away.

I caught sight of him in one of the back corners, his arms folded across his chest, hanging onto every word Muallim was saying. He could have come closer because there was a space up front, but he seemed more comfortable in that corner of his. It wasn’t long though before he made his way towards the entrance. My eyes trailed him. As he left without even turning round to look at me, I felt my heart flutter.
